Learners need to reflect on what they’ve learned.

It’s vital to give learners the chance to make sense of what they’ve learned, put it into perspective and see how it applies to their role. All of this helps give the learner ownership of the overall learning experience.

This means that:

  • learning should be in digestible ‘chunks’ - so learners have frequent opportunities to assess their progress, then reflect and digest before moving on
  • the content should include regular reviews and summaries - so learners can decide what they need to take with them for the future
  • activities should offer the learner the chance to practise, apply and reflect on what they have learned
