So what does ‘open learning’ mean? Let’s take a closer look
at these two little words:
- the ‘open’ indicates that the user has more choice and control
over their learning - that’s why it’s sometimes called ‘flexible’ learning.
Open learning is different from most conventional training methods because
it puts the user in the driving seat.
- the ‘learning’ defines the other essential element - open learning
is about the user finding things out rather than just being told
something. But this isn’t such a new idea - just consider this centuries-old
quote from Galileo:
“You can’t teach a man anything; you can only help him learn”
